Luis Vega's father first introduced him to Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do at the age of eight. In 1998, he enrolled at Calasanz and earned his first degree black belt in Goju Ryu karate in 2009.
Luis has been teaching at Calasanz since 2006, where he is the primary grappling instructor, implementing techniques from judo, wrestling, and Jiu Jitsu (both Japanese and Brazilian) into the already effective CALASANZ SYSTEM™. He is also a mixed martial arts competitor who won a silver medal at the North American Grappling Association Northeastern Championships in 2007.
As a martial artist, Luis believes in being well-balanced and versatile in every facet of life. His favorite Bruce Lee quote is "Not being tense but ready. Not thinking but not dreaming. Not being set but flexible. Liberation from the uneasy sense of confinement. It is being wholly and quietly alive, aware and alert, ready for whatever may come." Luis believes that being a competent grappler, will allow "our" Wing Chun, karate, and kickboxing to shine that much brighter. "After all" he says, "we are Calasanz students... Striking is our specialty!"
